Ryo Ishikawa is in the field of the Arnold Palmer invitational
Japanese star, Ryo Ishikawa will be playing the Arnold Palmer Invitational, scheduled from March 22 to 25, at the Floridian site of the Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational will be held as a qualifying tournament of the Masters. As, the Japanese is also aiming to be in the field of the major tournament, scheduled from April 5 to 8 at the Augusta National Golf Club.
If he is able to show the highest scoring average and driving distance, then he can be in the field of the Masters impressively.
This tournament is staged by the Professional Golf Association Tour every year and it was established in 1966. Initially, it was called the Florida Citrus Open Invitational.
Later, its identity had changed over time and since 2007, this mega prize event has been owned by Arnold Palmer and the lead sponsor is Master Card.
All the players will be competing for the huge purse of $6,000,000. Out of which, the winner’s share is $1,080,000, with additional 500 FedEx Cup points.
The 20-year-old professional currently stands at 54th in the Official World Golf Rankings and is the most famous golfer in Japan.
He played twice with the International team in the Presidents Cup in 2009 and 2011.
He has not secured any victory at the PGA-staged tournaments. However, after turning professional in 2008, he won 10 professional events.
Nine victories were recorded at the Japan Golf Tour and one at Kansai Open in 2008.
Ishikawa recently played the World Golf Championship-Accenture Match Play Championship and displayed an impressive performance throughout four-day game play.
He finished tied for the 17th position on the leaderboard and competed well, but his performance was not enough to get him qualified for the Master. His performance at Arnold Palmer Invitational will determine his chances.
His performance at PGA is yet to be displayed, as he has not played any PGA event in the current season.
He will be teeing off his first tournament of 2012 at the Puerto Rico Open held by seepuertorico.com from March 8 to 11.
Then he will also be playing the Transitions Championship from March 15 to 18.
The field is competitive and all the leading stars will be in Florida in March. Hence, Ishikawa has to face top-class player and it will not be easy for him.
If he delivers his best, then he will secure the top-10 position and can also qualify for the Masters.
