Ryo Ishikawa ready to impress his playing partner Tom Watson at the British Open
The Japanese golfing star Ryo Ishikawa is once again paired with the five-time Open champion Tom Watson at this year’s British Open, at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club, scheduled to start from July 19, 2012.
Ishikawa partnered the legendary Watson at the 2010 Open at St Andrews for the first time in his career.
It may not be important for Watson to be paired with the youngster for the second time. However, it does matter for the 10-time professional winner to play alongside the legend of the game once again.
According to him, he wants to show his playing partner how much improvement he has made in the last two years.
"I've got more experience in the last two years so I want to show Tom how I play now. It's going to be a great two days," Ishikawa said."It was a great experience for me two years ago at St Andrews".
Ishikawa became the youngest player in the history of the game to win a professional event at the age of 15 years and eight months. Since then, he never stopped playing a good game and recorded many other wins on his home tour.
He also came close to his first ever PGA Tour victory at the Puerto Rico Open. However, he had to settle for a second place finish in the end.
This time, he is confident to bag the British Open title, which will also open his account on the PGA Tour as well as the European Tour.
"Of course I will try to win this week, like other weeks. The first two days are going to be very important for me," he said.
If he succeeds in doing so, he will also become the second Asian player to win a major event. The South Korean YE Yang is the only Asian so far who won the PGA Championship in 2009.
"The course is in perfect shape though it's a big difference from what I'm used to on the Japanese tour," said Ishikawa. "Especially with the wind and the bunkers and the hard ground. One minute low shot, next time high ball".
