Ryo Ishikawa receives special temporary PGA Tour membership – Golf News
Japanese golfing sensation, Ryo Ishikawa, has earned a special temporary PGA Tour membership after he grabbed the second spot in the Puerto Rico Open two weeks ago.
His performance in Puerto Rico helped him gain $582,471 earnings on the PGA Tour and brought him in the top-150 in the PGA Tour money list.
Therefore, it was enough to grant him the membership to add six more events to his schedule on the Tour.
According to the special temporary membership rules, a player can participate in up to 12 events in total on the PGA Tour.
Moreover, if he succeeds in making to the top-125 in the money list at the end of the 2012 PGA Tour season, he will be able to earn the full-time PGA Tour Card for 2013.
Now it all depends on Ishikawa whether he will prefer to play further on the Tour or leave it as he did last year after accepting the special invitation for the membership.
Even though he accepted the offer last year, but he did not participate in any of the PGA Tour-sanctioned events afterwards.
He will now participate in the Arnold palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard schedule in this week because of his top-50 position in the Official World Golf Rankings till March 12, 2012.
He has also received an exemption to play in the Masters Tournament at the Augusta National, regardless of whether he remains in the top-50 or not, prior to the start of the event in April.
Ishikawa offered his gratitude to the PGA Tour officials for providing him the opportunity to play on the Tour for an extended period of time.
Moreover, he is confident to make it to the final 125 to become a regular player by 2013.
The only problem that Ishikawa faces right now is the lack of consistency in his performance in the events that he plays in the United States.
Following his runner-up position in the Puerto Rico Open, he missed the cut in last week’s Transitions Championship after carding 73 and 72 in the opening two rounds.
Therefore, he must overcome his mistakes and play his normal game in order to leave a better impression in each of the tournament he plays on the tour.
