Ryo Ishikawa secures second place at the Puerto Rico Open, pays respect to tsunami victims
Ryo Ishikawa finished the PGA-staged tournament of the Puerto Rico Open on the second position, at the Trump International Golf Club, Rio Grande in Puerto Rico.
After the completion of the tournament, he also observed a moment of silence for tsunami anniversary. Tsunami hit Japan on March 11, 2011.
Last year, hundreds of Japanese were killed after the tsunami storm hit. One year has passed in sorrow. It was one of the most devastating natural disasters and Japan was directly hit by it.
The charity was raised worldwide and Ishikawa also donated a handsome amount to support his people in Japan.
After the completion of a year, Ishikawa is feeling sad for the people who became victims of the disaster.
The 20-year-old Japanese star amazed the spectators by displaying tremendous performance on the final day of the tournament.
He was hoping to win the title and the prize, so that he could further support his motherland by charity.
He failed to win but secured the runner-up position by scoring a 4-under 68 on Sunday. He carded 21 birdies and 44 pars in total.
"I made three birdies in the last four holes, and it was a great experience for me to be very close to the winning experience," Ishikawa said.
"It felt like dreaming sometimes. If I get the next chance, I will grab it for sure," he added.
His impressive score was enough to put him on the top, but he was unable to end American George McNeill's two-stroke lead.
However, Ishikawa competed well against the leader and at one stage McNeill was worried about his lead when he saw the young gun firing good scores on the leaderboard.
"I was not aware that Ryo Ishikawa had the lead," McNeill said. "I knew that I needed to make a few birdies coming in, and that's the only thing I could really control".
The winner had earned a handsome amount of $630,000, whereas Ishikawa, the runner-up, earned $378,000.
Now, Ishikawa will again be donating for his country. Japan still needs support to eradicate the effects created by tsunami, and the young golfer is supporting well.
