Ryo Ishikawa set to make his debut at the Travelers Championship
Japanese golfing star Ryo Ishikawa is set to make his debut at the Travelers Championship when he will tee off at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell on Thursday, June 21, 2012.
Ishikawa has a mixed track record on the PGA Tour in 2012, as he missed the cut five times in his 12 appearances so far.
Moreover, he recorded two top-10 finishes, including the second-place finish in the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com.
The last tournament that he played was the US Open, where he missed the cut after carding 71 and 78 in the opening two rounds.
According to him, he failed with his putting technique that caused him to leave the Olympic Club’s field early, before the weekend.
“I just missed the cut last week due to my putting,” he said. “So last week I had four times three-putt on Friday. So putting is my key point this week”.
This time, he is confident to make a good run at River Highlands, as he believes that the course suits his style of playing.
Moreover, he can be a strong contender in the field that is showcasing a number of young players this year.
At the same time, he admits that the forecast of rainfall can add difficulty on the course, making the event more challenging for the participants.
“The golf course is perfect shape, and it's going to be some rain tonight, so it's getting windy conditions tomorrow,” Ishikawa said, on Wednesday. “So maybe you can play more challenging here. Also, I play with two young guys. So I'm very looking forward
to it”.
In the meantime, Patrick Cantlay, the top amateur golfer, has announced to turn professional through the Travelers Championship.
Therefore, the golf commentators believe that major attention will be given to Cantlay, which will release some pressure off from Ishikawa.
Ishikawa told that he felt honoured to know that he will play alongside the best amateur golfer of the recent times.
He said that Cantlay has one of the best swing techniques in the world and it will be interesting to watch him play live in front of him.
