Ryobi Cup: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 beat Southern by 5 wickets
In what could be termed a competitive match, Western Australia dominated Southern Australia at the Ryobi Cup as they managed to win by a margin of 5 wickets. Southern Australia had a tentative start as they lost two early wickets in the first four over’s.
DJ Harris fell to Hogan, scoring only 6 runs while Klinger, the captain of Southern Australia disappointed many by getting stumped for only two runs. The star player for Southern Australia was GA Manou who scored 47 runs off 57 deliveries. Blizzard also
played a responsible innings as he scored 30 off 47 deliveries.
In the bowling department, AK Heal and MR Marsh managed to overwhelm the batsmen with their line and length as they took 2 and 3 wickets respectively. Heal was economical with an economy rate of 3.5.
Meanwhile, Western Australia started off strongly as the opener LM Davis scored 30 from 35 deliveries, hitting 4 boundaries while the captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-North-c1982 played a responsible innings that managed to stabilize the middle order.
But, it was AC Voges who played superbly as he hit 81 in 93 balls to steer Western Australia to victory. Voges’ innings comprised of 10 fours with an excellent strike rate of 87. Swart fell to AW O’Brien which was his second failure in two consecutive matches.
He scored only 2 runs.
AW O’Brien stood out as a successful bowler in the Southern Australian side with a great economy rate as well, but the side fell short of some 20, 30 odd runs which could have given Western Australia some trouble.
Western Australia, after the win, has 5 points while Southern Australia, who have not won a single game in the competition till now, are still to make their mark in the tables. The Man of the Match was AC Voges.
