Ryosuke Irie, Yuya Horihata and Miyu Otsuka shine at the Japan Open: Day two
Day two of the 2011 Japan Open got off to a flying start with the scintillating performances of Ryosuke Irie, Yuya Horihata and Miyu Otsuka in the Men’s 200m back-stroke, Men’s 400m Individual Medley and Women’s 400m IM in Osaka, Japan.
Firstly, Ryosuke Irie clinched the gold title in the Men’s 200m back-stroke final with a sterling time of 1:54.55 minutes, while Kazuki Watanabe nabbed silver with a time of 1:57.68 minutes. Yuki Shirai snared bronze with a time of 1:58.77 minutes in the
respective meet.
Secondly, Yuya Horihata took home the golden crown in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley final with the fastest time of 4:12.28 minutes. Daiya Seto captured silver with a time of 4:13.42 minutes and jumped into the 6th place in the world rankings.
Meanwhile, Kosuke Hagino snagged bronze with a time of 4:14.58 minutes and moved into the 10th spot in the world rankings. Hiromasa Fujimori rounded out the top four in 4:16.84 minutes. After clinching the Men’s 400m IM title, Horihata was pleased
with his performance in the respective meet.
In the meantime, Miyu Otsuka earned first place honour in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley final with a stunning time of 4:38.05 minutes. More importantly, she has improved to fourth place in the world rankings of the following meet behind Mireia Belmonte
(4:34.91), Li Xuanxu (4:35.73) and Kirsty Coventry (4:37.21 minutes).
Miho Takahasi captured silver with a distinctive time of 4:41.50 minutes and improved to 14th place in the world rankings. On the other hand, Izumi Kato wound up third with a time of 4:42.16 minutes.
In the Women’s 200m back-stroke final, Shiho Sakai clinched the gold title with the fastest time of 2:08.38 minutes. Sayaka Akase picked up the top two seed in 2:09.38 minutes and earned 14th place honour in the respective meet. Saki Shimazoe
rounded out the top three in 2:11.44 minutes.
Last, but not the least, the Women’s 50m butterfly crown was taken over by Yuka Kato with a sterling time of 26.34 seconds. Meanwhile, Rino Hosoda took silver with a time of 26.88 seconds and Misaki Agou wound up third in a time of 27.15 seconds.
Moreover, Ryo Tateishi snatched the Men’s 50m breast-stroke title with an intriguing time of 27.98 seconds and improved to 14th place in the world rankings. On the other side, Kouichirou Okazaki was placed second with a time of 28.16 seconds and
Yuki Okajima settled third in a time of 28.17 seconds.
