Ryosuke Irie and USA Relay Team win gold medals in Men’s events – 2011 World University Games
Ryosuke Irie of Japan and USA Relay team won the gold medals of Men’s 50m back-stroke and 4*200m freestyle relay on day three of the 2011 World University Games, which concluded on Tuesday, August 16, in Shenzhen, China.
Irie displayed a wonderful swim in front of the aquatic arena and captured the gold medal of the event, by submitting a fastest time of 25.11 seconds. His time was 0.48 seconds slower than the Game Record of 24.63 seconds, set by Junya Koga of Japan in 2009.
Likewise, the gold medallist was also 1.07 seconds above the world mark of 24.04 seconds, made by Liam Tancock of Great Britain in 2009.
The Japanese champion was trailed by Guy Barnea of Israel, who remained 0.10 seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and reached the podium for silver medal, by submitting a time of 25.21 seconds. Sergey Makov of Russia was the third position holder of
the event, as he ended his sprint in a third fastest time of 25.42 seconds for bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Gareth Kean of New Zealand transpired as the fourth fastest swimmer of the event, as he completed his single lap back-stroke swim with a timing of 25.49 seconds. Kurt Peter Bassett of New Zealand and Juan Miguel Rando Galvez of Spain were the
fifth and sixth position holders of the event, with timings of 25.52 and 25.67 seconds, respectively.
Later, in the Men’s 4*200m freestyle relay meet, USA’s squad clinched gold medal of the event by posting a time of 7 minutes and 13.54 seconds. They were followed by the Japanese squad, which acquired second position of the swim with a timing of 7 minutes
and 14.66 seconds. Then, Australia occupied third fastest spot of the event, as they ended their swim with a timing of 7 minutes and 17.58 seconds.
South Africa ranked fourth in the distant relay event, as they remained 2.17 seconds slower than the third finisher and posted a time of 7 minutes and 19.75 seconds. The fifth finest spot was secured by Italian team, which was just 1.11 seconds slower than
their former finisher and clocked a time of 7 minutes and 20.86 seconds.
France settled as the sixth fastest finisher of the relay race, as it remained 3.32 seconds behind Italy and produced a time of 7 minutes and 24.18 seconds.
