Ryosuke Irie conquers Men’s 200m backstroke heats: Day five - Tatsumi International Pool, Tokyo
Ryosuke Irie conquered the preliminary rounds of Men’s 200m backstroke on day five of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Friday, April 6.
Irie proved his ascendancy over his challengers throughout the distant backstroke swim. With his immaculate efforts and wonderful stroke, he overpowered his opponents and entered the semi-finals as top fastest swimmer.
Irie remained almost two strokes faster from his following challenger and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 58.57 seconds. His effort was trailed by Kazuki Watanabe, who stayed 0.10 seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 58.67 seconds for seconds qualifying position.
The third best spot of the race was obtained by Kuninori Tada, who stayed 0.20 seconds away from his former finisher and emerged on the finishing end as third finest swimmer by producing an effort of 1 minute and 58.87 seconds.
Tada was chased by Keita Sunama, who remained nearly one second slower from his foregoing finisher and entered the semi-finals as fourth fastest swimmer by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 59.69 seconds.
Sunama remained just 0.08 seconds ahead of Takahiro Yamazaki, who posted a time of 1 minute and 59.77 seconds to qualify into the next round as fifth best finisher.
Next was the Women’s 200m breaststroke prelims, where Satomi Suzuki upset her challengers by snaring top qualifying position of the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 25.47 seconds.
Suzuki was trailed by Kanako Watanabe, who stayed nearly two strokes behind her former finisher and settled on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 25.73 seconds.
Watanabe was followed by Rie Kanetou, who stayed 1.13 seconds slower from Suzuki and emerged on the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 25.86 seconds for third position.
Kanetou was chased by Mio Motegi, who remained just an inch slower from her preceding swimmer and posted an effort of 2 minutes and 25.91 seconds for fourth position.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events while these qualifying swimmers will compete with each other in the semi-finals.
