Ryosuke Irie wins Men’s 50m back-stroke title: Day three – 2011 World University Games
Day three of the 2011 World University Games saw the impressive splashes of Ryosuke Irie and Melania Schmid Costa in Shenzhen, China, on Tuesday, August 16. The final session of the competition conducted the Men’s 50m back-stroke and Women’s 200m freestyle
events.
At the beginning, Ryosuke Irie of Japan snared the golden crown in the Men’s 50m back-stroke final by posting an immaculate time of 25.11 seconds. In the corresponding race, Guy Barnea of Israel secured the silver medal on the podium by submitting an impressive
time of 25.21 seconds. Meanwhile, Sergey Makov of Russia captured the bronze medal on the podium with a matchless time of 25.42 seconds.
Gareth Kean of New Zealand earned fourth place honours in a time of 25.49 seconds, while Gareth Kean’s team-mate, Peter Kurt Bassett was placed fifth in a time of 25.52 seconds. Miguel Juan Galvez Rando of Spain wound up sixth in a time of 25.67 seconds.
Germany’s Philip Jan Glania was placed seventh in a time of 25.86 seconds and Russia’s Parker James Darren Murray settled eighth in a time of 26.15 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Women’s 200m freestyle crown was taken over by Spanish swimmer, Melania Schmid Costa on the podium by posting an impressive time of 1 minute and 57.98 seconds. Lauren Boyle of New Zealand earned silver medal in the respective meet by submitting
an immaculate time of 1 minute and 59.19 seconds, while United States’ Karlee Bispo snared bronze medal in a time of 1 minute and 59.31 seconds.
In the corresponding meet, New Zealand’s Natasha Hind was placed fourth in a time of 1 minute and 59.56 seconds, whereas, Qianwei Zhu of China settled fifth in a time of 2 minutes and 00.55 seconds. Margaux Farrell of France was placed sixth in a time of
2 minutes and 00.65 seconds, while Patricia Ortega Castro of Spain finished seventh in time of 2 minutes and 00.91 seconds. Yi Tang of China earned eighth spot in a time of 2 minutes and 01.74 seconds.
