Ryota Taohata-Ayaka Takahashi clinch Mixed Doubles title at Canada Open Grand Prix 2012
Japan’s Ryota Taohata and Ayaka Takahashi surprised everyone as they clinched Mixed Doubles title after beating their higher ranked team-mates Takeshi Kamura and Yonemoto Koharu in final clash of Yonex Canada Open Grand Prix 2012 on Sunday, July 15, at Richmond,
Canada.
Taohata and Takahashi, who were un-seeded players in the tournament, continued their giant killing run on court and won the crown by thrashing their compatriots Kamura and Koharu who were fourth seeds in Mixed Doubles draw of Canada Open.
The in-form Taohata and Takahashi were fully focused in the final battle of the event as they played controlled badminton and did not commit any mistake in grabbing victory against their higher ranked country-mates in straight games in just 31 minutes.
Kamura and Koharu, on the other hand, were the favourites to win this final battle as they were facing un-seeded opponents. However, they failed to put up strong show and lost to their compatriots in a one-sided fashion without proving their worth.
The opening set was interesting for the crowd when both couples showed a wonderful aggression on court and remained close in the opening half as no one could manage a dominating lead on the score board.
Until the one-minute interval, the lower ranked Taohata and Takahashi were leading the game with a small lead of 11-10.
However, Taohata and Takahashi started to extend the gap after the break by playing aggressive badminton as they did not let their opponents to control the pace.
The un-seeded Taohata and Takahashi remained positive and snatched the first game with an impressive 21-14 score on the board.
In the second set, Kamura and Koharu played good badminton and remained equal until the score reached at 5-5.
At this stage, Taohata and Takahashi played with aggression and managed a good lead of 11-8 until the break.
After the interval, the higher ranked Japanese shuttlers tried their best to end up the domination of their compatriots and remained successful in making the score levelled at 15-15.
Taohata and Takahashi were down at 15-16 when they surprised everyone by grabbing six straight points and ended up the game with a wonderful margin of 21-16.
The lower ranked Taohata and Takahashi won this Mixed Doubles final in a dominating manner with a 21-14 and 21-16 score on the board.
