Sebastien Josse’s Gitana 11 makes first reference time at ArMen Race 2011 – Sailing news
Sebastien Josse was successful in making the first reference time on his Gitana 11 at the relatively new competiton to the France sailing circle, the ArMen Race 2011, on Friday, June 3. The ArMen
Race will definitely be an event worth watching as the sailors will sail between the rout of La Trinité-sur-Mer, Ile de Sein and Ile d’Yeu.
Josse set sail on his Baron Benjamin de Rothschild group fitted maxi-trimaran, Gitana 11, on Thursday, June 2 at 3:30pm GMT and reached back at the home shores on Friday morning exactly at 5:40am
GMT. However, the 36-year-old Josse is still waiting for Multi One Design 70 (MOD 70) Edmond de Rothschild Group.
Gitana 11 was the only G Class trimaran that started the reference time completion race and crossed the finish line first. Josse finished the 330 nautical miles in 14 hours and five minutes with an
average of 23.41 knots per hour to enter the La Trinité-sur-Mer, SW Brittany channel.
While speaking to the locals media after the return, the Frenchman said, “The 300 mile race were chained almost perfectly and we had very few maneuvers to perform, allowing us to establish a nice
journey times in 14 hours and 5 minutes.”
He added, “The weather was ideal scenario. We had a northeast wind is blowing between 18 and 25 knots and seas relatively flat throughout our course, with the exception of the approach and passage
of the Western Sein. There, a swell of two meters west rose a heavy sea as it came to oppose the strong currents characteristic of the area.”
The crew member of Gitana 11 include skipper, Sebastien Josse, David Boileau, Florent Chastel, Cyril Dardashti, Olivier Douillard and Antoine Koch.
The next stop for Gitana 11 will be Saint Nazaire where it will sail in the Record SNSM, commencing from Sunday, June 19 from Saint Nazaire to Saint Malo. Josse, along with his crew members, will
be looking forward to do better in the 360 miles race than their previous time back in 2010 which was 19 hours, 39 minutes and 58 seconds.
