S. Badrinath elated at winning a recall in Indian One Day team for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760: Cricket News
Chennai Super Kings' hard-hitting batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Subramaniam-Badrinath-c91587, is elated at winning a call for the tour of West Indies set to start in June, the right-handed batsman in part of the Indian One Day International (ODI) team that would
play five ODI matches against the team from the Caribbean next month.
Badrinath has been in stellar form in the on-going Indian Premier League, the right-handed batsman has scored some big runs and made the bowlers toil in the crash, bang and wallop format which has suited his style of play.
CSK is one of the favourites for the title and have their sights set on making the final set to take place on May 28.
The middle-order batsman played two Tests and three ODIs for his country. He made his test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at Nagpur last year, however has failed to add onto his Test caps due to a poor show in the two games he played.
He scored 56 runs in his first Test match innings. The knock came off 139 balls and it showed the class and composure that made him one of the best players in the Indian domestic set-up.
Despite a fifty his paltry returns in the next two innings he faced the axe, Badrinath played his three ODIs in the 2008 during a tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
He failed to impress much scoring only 39 runs, with a best of 27 runs not out.
He claimed that he was focused on making an impression this time around and has the fire in him to cement his spot in the power packed Indian batting line-up, easily the best in the world at the minute.
"I was expecting it [the selection call] to be honest. I have been really playing well in recent times and there was news floating around that I would be selected," Badrinath said. "Since I was out for three years in ODIs, it really feels
good to be back."
Badrinath also stated that losing the central contract after he was dropped from the side had made him doubly determined as he knew that he has it in him to perform at the highest level against the best in the business.
He added that while disappointment was there after losing the central contract he knew what his long term goals were and how he was going to pursue them, the same spirit is rife as he looks forward to touring the Caribbean.
"I was disappointed losing the contract as it meant I wasn't part of the whole system. I was out of sight. It was a tough phase. I sat down after that and charted out where I wanted to go. I set my goals and wanted to come back. They say
you learn more from your failures than your success and it's true for me."
The West Indian tour is set to be a big challenge for him and the young Indian team that is being led by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Knight-c71599 Riders in the IPL has a great record as Indian captain;
he led the team to a 5-0 whitewash against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 on the eve of the World Cup and has carried on in the same vein in the T20 format.
The 30-year-old Badrinath would be hoping to work closely with his captain as he bids to resurrect at an international career, which was full of promise not long ago.
