  1. 30db

    shortcut for voltage ratios: just take the number of zeros and add a zero

    100 = 20dB

    1000 = 30dB

    10000 = 40dB

    100000 = 50dB

    1000000 = 60dB

    .

  2. To calculate the Decibel rating of a number, you have to know that:

    dB = 10 * log(10) of Value

    Because the value here is "simple", namely 1000, you don't even need a calculator to get the answer. To calculate logarithms of 10, you have to answer:

    10^x = value

    x = ?

    in this case, x = 3, because:

    10 ^ 3 = 1000

    So what you basically have to is:

    dB = 10*log(10) 1000

    dB = 10 * 3

    dB = 30
