S&P e-mini volume?

With the resent drop in volume on the S&P e-mini I was woundering is this new volume normal or way too low?

Volume averaged 1.5 million contracts now is a a quater of a million for the past 3 days.

  1. Look at the charts. Large drops in volume might be normal for that future, but you would have to look at the history. I would say a year back at most.

The front month on the ES changed from June to September on June 12.  Front month is the contract used by most traders, and the contract that gets most of the volume.  On June 12, most rolled their positions from June to September, since September was becoming the front month, and would have the most volume.  The September contract has had most of the volume since then. In ES, the rollover date is the Thursday 8 days before the third Friday of the month of the contract in question (March, June, Sep, Dec).
