S. Santhosh Jestine penetrates into quarter-final at the Puducherry State Badminton Championship
India’s spirited player S. Santhosh Jestine showed his class and penetrated into Boy’s Singles U19 quarter-final after beating his lower ranked team-mate R. Jaghadeeshwaran in round-of-16 battle at the 31st Puducherry State Badminton Championship
– III Phase on Saturday, August 11, in India.
The higher ranked Santhosh, who is seeded at number two in Boy’s Singles main draw of the event, was in tremendous form as he played with precision throughout the battle and overpowered Jaghadeeshwaran in a completely lopsided fashion.
The second seeded Santhosh was one-class above his un-seeded opponent as he remained in commanding position all the way in the contest and ended it up in straight sets with an authoritative margin on score board.
In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Jaghadeeshwaran got a shocking treatment in opening set of the battle and remained unable to put up strong show. However, he played better badminton in the following set but no enough to overpower his rival and eventually
lost the match without proving his worth.
Santhosh started the opening game with confidence as he played powerful smashes and accurate drives to keep his opponent moving in all areas of the court and remained successful in setting up a superb lead on the board until the interval.
After the break, Santhosh continued his killing run without showing any respect to his lower ranked rival. He was in full control of rallies and he remained fully focused on court.
The planned game of Santhosh helped him to wind up the opening game with a tremendous 21-3 margin on the score board.
In the following set, Jaghadeeshwaran also showed his impressive skills and matched the pace of rallies by taking the bird early.
Until the mid-game break in the second set, Jaghadeeshwaran did not let Santhosh to take a comfortable lead.
After the break, Santhosh changed his tactics and started to control the rallies with his incredible speed and managed to take the second game with a reasonable 21-18 margin on the score board.
The in-form Santhosh managed to win this Boy’s Singles pre-quarter-final battle in straight games with a tremendous margin of 21-3 and 21-18.
