I am trying my hardest to get into the entertainment industry, as you may have read in the question i asked like a minute ago, and a lot of places require you to be SAG certified. Do you have to be a certain age? Is it a one time cost or is it monthly? Do you have to go audition or how do you go about being a member?

  2. In order to join SAG, you must either have (1) proof of SAG employment or (2) employment under an affiliated performers’ union.

So, if you are--luckily--booked on a SAG project, you become eligible to join even if you are non-union.  Affiliated performers' unions include AFTRA, AEA, etc.).

There is no age minimum.  Child movie stars are SAG members.

There is a one-time cost to join, plus you pay yearly dues, about $100/year minimum.

  3. Move to a Right-to-Work State and you don't have to  pay Union Dues.

    Texas is  a Right-to-Work State.

  4. There are two ways to get into SAG.

    1. Collecting three SAG/Taft Hartley waivers. Basically working as a paid background actor on a SAG movie or TV program with no lines.

    2. Being hired onto a SAG film or TV show as a principal role and showing proof of employment in that instance.

There is then an initiation fee of currently $1100.00 ( a one time fee that can be paid over a two year period) Then yearly fees of $118 billed in two installments of $59 in May and November and then working fees which are deducted from your gross pay each week.  The more you make the more they take.

I would highly recommend staying non equity for a few years until you get some experience which is what I'm currently doing in my own career.
