I only caught him saying he handed in his resignation ... because I wasn't quick enough to turn the station over.. I haven't watched the footy show for years .. and it's because sam is such a jerk.

No they won't sack him! He's the heart of the show and the only reason they get away with every skit on that show!

I must admit I ignore everything that comes out his mouth, though I watch it for the panels thoughts on the games for the week..

He's not so bad some weeks, he reminds me of that annoying pesk at school, who thought he was funny, except all grown up! heh..

Trevor Marmalade has as much humour in him as a dead dog.

Billy Browlnless is so thick he probably can't even spell his own name.

Mark Brayshaw has has as much charisma as roadkill.

Gary Lyon is as slow on the uptake as the Second Coming.....

And thank goodness the players they have as guests can play football because if they had to rely on brains for a living  they would be confined to digging septic pits.

Sam's whole thing is comedy. I have met the man and he is quite different off camera.

If Sam left the Footy Show or retired, ratings would fall. Quickly.

I can see how he upsets you Jenny, but he is a performer, not the director of the show, or even the moderator. They are responsible for what the panel does.

Sam likes to tease, in every sense, and when Eddie was on the show Sam stayed MOSTLY within bounds. When he went ape, it was because someone else teased him to lose his temper. Notably Shane Crawford.

Brayshaw isn't a compere's bootlace. He is primarily out to advance his career at the Kangas and having TWO Kangas fans on the panel overbalances it. Apart from the fact he can't manage Sam or some of the guests. Gary Lyon is a nice bloke and knows his football, but again he isn't a strong enough character to keep Sam funny but not vulgar, and neither is the otherwise suitable Brownless.

I reckon David Schwarz in his more mature mode could do that! They don't have anyone else in the Nine team that could. So many of the Nine presenters should be put out to grass, they could be their football guests' grandfathers.

I'm with you Jenny, I think the man's an embarrassment.  I can't understand these ppl who claim to like and admire him.  Channel 9 should put him out to pasture and get some modern-thinking young people instead. How about a Koori? There's some brilliant people on Channel 31.

He has a go at umpires; AFL officials; aborigines (remember Nicky?); South Australians (who doesn't); ethnic groups of all denominations; Melbourneians (he has no trouble finding idiots in his Street Talk); but he can't say anything derogatory against WCE - because there ain't any bad things to say!

Leave him alone. There's nothing wrong with him except him being a bigot; a sexist; a racist & a male chauvanist.

His whole TV career is based on him being politically incorrect. All his stunts are parodies and he has a go at everyone in the last 10 years.

From what I saw yesterday, Sam said he does not want to work with someone who he makes uncomfortable - this comment was directed at Gary Lyon.

Gary Lyons host the Footy Classified with Caroline Wilson.

Gary tried to smooth over the incident when confront with the issue on Footy Classified. He made made an apology and made some comments about Sam. But I think in the process he also inadvertently bagged Sam.

So I think Sam is saying that I don't need you to support my comments but I think you should support me as a co-presenter. And if you didn't like what I said then you should tell it to my face rather than try to suck up to Caroline.

Sam Newman IS The Footy Show.

He might have a sexist and tough exterior,BUT it's so obvious to me he's kind hearted and will do anything to help a mate out.

It really frustrates me when people bag shows or people that appear on them...TURN IT OFF!!!!! Or just come out of the closet and admit you like him.

You know I have no interest in the AFL scene but this Idiot deserves to be sent to Siberia for life. What a real W...ker and not many brains. How he ever learnt to kick a football is something that a Uni student could do a Theseus on. Pick easy targets (Women) and hope that the majority of men would follow his Macho ideals. the solution is simple... just don't take what he says seriously!!

I don't think his attitudes towards anything will catch on with the rest of the footballing world and population... so don't take any of his words personally..

sorry Jenny but if you don't watch the footy show, well you haven't for years, why were you turning your tv,on to ch9???

i won't use the word jerk, because that is another Americanism that has taken over our own language, he is more a dic khead, but he does make me laugh at times, unlike Trev, who is not real funny with his rehearsed jokes, wish brayshaw would stop doing his fake laugh at them.

I'm with the majority here, the show wouldn't be as funny without the dic head, Sammy.

I think that the ratings are dropping already!

I must admit that I am pretty thick skinned and I know that Sam always has a go at someone. But in recent years, he goes on and on with the same rubbish. He can't move forward, he just bags the same person or minority group week in week out and it's tiresome.

I'm bored with the whole "Chief Dunstall" thing, "bagging of rival networks" and "Gary Lyons eyebrows" and worst of all, Lyon and Brayshaw lead him into it! It really just proves that Sams inteligence is limited to that of someone with a mental disability when he shows us week in and week out that he isnt capable of having his joke then moving on to something different!

It's got to the point where I watch my team selection then turn it off. I am sure that others are doing the same.
