Who is / was The Original San Diego chicken?

A BIG P.R. push is being tauted over my local media (TV, radio, and even newspaper) about the San Deigo chicken, a.k.a "THE CHICKEN" arriving to a local Indoor baseball game.

I recall seeing another local sport played when THE CHICKEN showed up many, many years ago (1970-something) when he was just starting.

Am I correct to think that was TED GIOVANNI who was the Original Chicken?

And who is THE CHICKEN nowadays?

That was actually Ted Giannaoulas who originally portrayed the chicken. He was originally the mascot for the radio station KGB but a conflict between him and the radio station caused him to be fired in 1977. Another employee was hired to portray the chicken but after a lawsuit, Giannaoulas won the right to wear the suit again in 1979. He continues to make occasional appearances at Padres games as the chicken to this day.
