Question:

SAND HORNETs!! HELP?

we just discovered that we have sand hornets near our house. how or can you get rid of them? and we have two dogs...are they in danger?

  1. Your dogs are not in danger unless they try to eat them (my dog sometimes tries to eat honey bees and flies) but even then the most that is likely to happen is that they will have sore tongues for a few days and think twice about doing it again. However, for the most part, if you leave them alone they will not bother you. The males might sometimes buzz around close to your head if you get too close to a burrow to try and scare you away, but those ones can't sting and the females are much less likely to exhibit that kind of threatening behavior. You can basically sit or stand right beside a burrow without having to worry about being stung unless you actively try to damage the burrow. Basically, just don't go looking for trouble and you won't find it.


  2. If you want to get rid of them, pour boiling hot water down their nests, you gotta do it several times to make sure you got them all.

    But it is unlikely your dogs are in danger unles they mess with the nests or the wasps
