Pardon my ignorance but isn't the Santa Fe trail in Mexico???Why dont you post this in the Mexico travel section, not in Latin America. Maybe more people will help you there.

1. In 1821, the Santa Fe Trail became America’s first great international commercial highway

2. It was proclaimed a National Historic Trail in 1987.

3. The trail extends for nearly 1,200 miles across five states (Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico).

4.  It served as a vital commercial and military highway until the arrival of the railroad to Santa Fe in 1880.

5.  Many miles of the Trail ran over flat prairie land, with no guide posts or landmarks for miles.

6. The first trip was made on September 1, 1821.

7. The first military fort established on the trail was Ft. Leavenworth in 1827.

8. A dramatization of life on the route was made into a motion picture in 1940, starring Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Raymond Massey and Ronald Reagan.
