SARU announces list of 100 players for South African Under-20s side selection – Rugby News
South African Rugby Union (SARU) has announced the names of players invited to trials for selection in the South African Under-20s national Rugby Union team. Union officials announced the players
for trials in a statement released on their website on Tuesday, November 1.
The players are directed to report to the GWK Park, Kimberly, on November 6. SARU will hold the camp until November 11, which also includes trial matches, which will be played from November
8 to November 10.
The announcement of the 100 players is the first step of the process for the selection of the Baby Boks squad for the 2012 Junior World Championship. South Africa is the host of the event,
which will be played between June 4 and June 22 next year.
South African Under 20s coach, Dawie Theron, has expressed his satisfaction with the short listing of the players for the trails. He said, “We’ve cast our net very wide and have invited players
that we’d like to get in our system, who might only play for South Africa in two years’ time. There are also players that are injured or others that might come into the reckoning next year, but it is essential that everyone gets a fair chance to show what
they are capable of. “
Theron added that they have also called a few South African Schools team players to benchmark their performance against players playing at the Under 20s level.
