Question:

SAT Subject Tests???

I will be a sophomore in high school. This year I will be taking both AP US History and Honors Chemistry. So, since there are SAT Subject tests for both of these classes, when should I plan on taking the SAT subject tests. Right after I finish the course? Or is that too early because I heard that most people take them junior year or senior year?

Also, what is the benifit of the sat subject tests? How many do you recommend taking?

  1. most colleges REQUIRE 1-3 TEST.

    About the SAT Subject Tests

SAT Subject Tests are an hour long and consist entirely of multiple-choice questions. Previously the Subject Tests were known as SAT II: Subject Tests or more simply SAT IIs. The "II" has been eliminated.

    Why Take Them?

Most selective colleges require one to three SAT Subject Tests.

    Question Types

Exclusively multiple-choice. Some language tests involve a listening component. Find more info below about what each test covers.

    When Should You Take Them?

You can take an SAT Subject Test at any point in your high school career. Many take math Subject Tests in the fall of their senior year. Other tests, like sciences and languages, should be taken right after finishing related subjects in school.

    How Are They Scored?

One score per test, scale of 200-800.

    How Long Are They?

    One hour per test.

i would take both{well im going to take the AP CHEMISTRY ONE, NOT HONORS..WHICH I MIGHT CONSIDER DOING NOW.LOL}.

  2. only take subject tests if the college you want to requires subject tests. take as many as they require. and take them after the course and you should do fine

  3. Subject tests are required at just about all upper level schools. Since you are taking AP courses as a sophomore I am assuming your GPA is good and that you will probably end up applying to some of these more selective schools. Most of these schools require 2 subject test, some, I have been told, require 3. It is probably best to take the test right when you finish the course so that the material is still fresh in your mind, however, since this will be at the end of your sophomore year, you shouldn't have the scores sent to the colleges immediately because the college will know nothing about you and may not hold on to the score. To send your scores later there is a fee.

I would probably take the tests, but for your best answer you should talk with your guidance counselor. They will be able to give you the best advice on the matter. Best of luck
