Question:

SAT advice on the math section?

My highschool math teachers gave me A's because I did the work, not because I understood it. I am in my second year of college starting this fall and am taking the SAT over again in October (I go to community college). I need help with preparing for the SAT math section :-) Thanks.

  1. You should invest in a graphing calculator and learn how to use it. Its a great tool on SAT for figuring out problems and just plugging in numbers to work towards a solution. Most people cant think of numbers clearly, so seeing it on the screen and seeing all of the different functions you can do gets your brain jumpstarted on how to solve it. I'd also just recommend taking practice tests, getting your time down, and knowing the format of the SAT. It really does help. Good luck!

  2. To me, the most trusted sources are the collegeboard books and website. They provide you with real sample tests similar to those in the real test. The collegeboard book reviews the important math chapters that you will be tested on in addition to tips and tricks. I recommend that you try the SAT Online Course found on collegeboard.com. It is an online program that prepares you for the SAT with more than 10 full-length tests, quizzes, and reports on your overall performance. Plus, it can score your essay. It is the most trustworthy program. Try it.

  3. In your case it may have been a couple years since you last studied SAT level math, so it's a good idea to get your hands on a good test prep book (Princeton Review, Kaplan's, etc.) and refresh yourself on this stuff over the summer. You're probably familiar with other prep options from your first go-around (prep class, tutor, etc.) so I won't discuss those at length. Good luck!
