SAT concerns and I some help!?

Basically I go to a magnet school. I am not going to reveal where I live but summer vacation started about 3 weeks ago here. Well, I am going on to the 11th grade and instead of just playing videogames all day and playing football outside with my friends I spend about 40 minutes every day studying for the SAT. I have a book called "SAT Success Test Prep" and it is the 2003 version. I took the first section of math and I finished 16 questions in 30 minutes because most of that stuff I have never seen in my life (I had a bad math teacher my sophomore year and I about to be a Junior).

I got about 5 wrong and I am sad at that result. I want to make at least above a 2000 on my SAT. What can I do to ensure that?

  1. for the verbal section I would recommend that you read, books newspapers, mags. reading is key. There is probably something in your local library in the reference section that is an SAT guide book. Photocopy the vocab and make flash cards. You WILL see those words on the test. As for the quant section I would say that most people get caught in the reading of the word problems. My answer to that was to make charts/notes as I read thru the problem and then saying what do I know before even reading the question.

  2. well, first of all, you might want to do the ones u know the best and u know you'll get it right, then do the ones ur skeptical about last, and try understanding them through the other stuff u know, if tht doesnt work, try actually learning from the SAT book before the test.

    good luck

  3. the questions you are skeptical about, SKIP, skipping a question doesn't take away any points on the SAT. i took it this may, and skipped a bunch, but i wish i skipped more, because i got a lot wrong on the reading sections :(

this past year, i had "SAT prep" in school, it was 30min every morning before school. kind of like a private tutor everyday. that helped a lot. ask your parents if they can find you a tutor or a local SAT prep (my friend went to a local college and took a prep class every saturday for like 2 months or so)

i got a 1700 out of 2400, so don't worry if you don't get above a 2000. a 2000 is really tough to get. the national average is about a 1500. colleges look at your verbal and math. if you get in the high 500s, you'll be good. unless you plan on going to Yale or Harvard etc.

good luck. make sure you get a goodnights sleep the night before, don't worry, and eat breakfast! you have to sit there for 4 hours

  4. They are showing you KINDS of problems.  Every time you run into one you don't know how to do, learn to do that kind of problem.

On the actual test, leave the hard ones for last.

You might want to get the current book, though.
