Question:

SAT help? For the 12 year old?

Hi, Yeah, I'm a bit young taking the SAT, but onto the main point. What are ways I can do to prepare myself for the SAT? I know Algebra 1, Geometry, and some Algebra 2, not much. Is there any routine that I can do to sharpen my math skills? I don't really need suggestions for books, more or so how to use the books. If there is anything that has worked for you that may work for me, feel free to say. I don't mind if it is a 2 hour routine or anything else, something that will improve will be good. Thanks, and all answers will be appreciated.

  1. The preparation comes when you take math courses.  Other than that, you are just re-studying what you already should know.  Prep books help you brush up, not learn.

  2. WOW! I wish I was as intelligent as you!

  3. I started taking the SAT at your age.

You only really need a knowledge up until algebra 2, but it doesn't hurt to get some background in trigonometry and pre-cal to help you solve certain equations in easier ways.

As for english, just read and learn literary terms.

For the essay, studies have shown that there is a positive correlation between the length and the score of the essay. So make sure you fill both pages, and use personal experience as one of your backing points. It's a simple 5-paragraph essay, and sadly, if your essay doesn't fit that mold your score will probably suffer.

Get a practice book and take practice tests before you take the actual test.

And because you're so young, don't expect a super high score your first few times taking the SAT. The first time I took it, in 7th grade, I got a score in the high 500's and I was really disappointed, but hey, you have tons of time to learn and improve.

  4. i think i took a practice test that early, but i was really disappointed and tried not to think about the SATs...somehow though i just got really good as a junior and my test scores shot up by around 400 points...i think you should focus on the extracurriculars, so that you'll have a good start in high school...the SAT tests ability, not really knowledge, and ability you learn through the years of school you attend and is a gradual process...
