  1. yes this is a good time, its NEVER too early to start studying for your entrance exams

the collegeboard book is very good, i heard it was the best

you may also want to check out Princeton Review

I recommend taking the test in march or may of your junior year

take the act if you feel you do better on it than the sat, for many it seems easier

study the act with princeton review books

    good luck!

  2. WOW ALREADY? i am impressed. i wish i did that when i was taking SATs.

Since you are starting early, I would recommend you memorize a LOT of SAT vocabs. that's honestly the only key to success in the verbal section. Read grammar books for the writing section and math section is relatively easy. if you pay attention in school you should do fine.

one REALLY good way to prep for it is to just practice because everything becomes a repetition after awhile. it's also good to just get used to sitting there for like 6 hours to take the test. I remember i used to do go to test prep centers around my area and just do the practice exams. During one summer, i went at least 5 days a week and just take the test to make sure that i have enough time to finish it and do the corrections and learn your mistakes.. and after one summer my score went up 400. but since you are starting early, you prob dont have to cram it as much as i did.

best time to take it is junior year. i highly recommend you take the psat for scholarship purposes and also its like the mini me of SAT anyways. I'd take it during the first semester of your jr. year and see how your score is and go from there but def. try to have everything before senior year starts bc of college applications and stuff. you dont want to leave your SAT score blank or not submit the best you can offer.

hopefully this is helpful to you

  3. You don't need to start studying until your junior year of high school.  You typically take the tests in the summer between your junior and senior years or early in your senior year so you can apply to colleges in the late fall of your senior year.

I never prepped for the ACT or SAT and I did fine on both of them.  I just showed up on test day and winged it.  I got a 32 on the ACT.

The prep books will definitely help, but you don't need to spend NEARLY that much time studying.  Focus on getting good grades in school for now.  Study in the summer between your junior and senior years when you can focus on that only and won't be distracted from your school studies.

I'd recommend checking out amazon.com and reading the user reviews on the various prep books to see which books worked for the largest majority of people.

Get plenty of sleep the night before the exam, eat a healthy breakfast, and don't be rushed on your way to take the exam.  Don't forget multiple pencils and an approved calculator as well as a sweater.
