  1. If he spends 5/12, then he has 7/12 left.  7/12=140/x

    x=140*12/7=$240  Not a very big salary.

  2. cross multiply

    5/12 = 140/x

  3. You have to cross multiply and create a proportion, as shown here:

    5/12=140/x

  4. After spending 5/12 he has $140 LEFT..so $140 is 7/12 of his salary. (because 12/12 minus 5/12 is 7/12, which is what he has LEFT... it's kinda tricky because 5/12 is what he spent, but you know what he has LEFT to make the equation)

    7/12 = $140/X

    7/12 = $140/$240  so...

    X = $240 = the man's salary

  5. well you do

    5/12=140/1 . . . . .and cross multiply

    so you get 1680/5

    then you divide

    and u get 336 ?

  6. if 5/12 = 140/total

    just do cross multiplication and you get 140*12 / 5 = total

    $336

  7. Okay so that means that 5/12 of the salary equals $140.

    So 5/12x=140 the multiply each side by 12/5 and get

    x = $336
