  1. Yes, by answering more questions correctly.

  2. lol yes u can, but it takes a lot of practice, even though the sat is supposed to measure ur intelligence, it is a test that can be beaten, i have already raised mine from a 1870 to a 2040 and if u combine my highest scores i would get a 2110 =D

  3. It is possible, but it will be difficult.

The SAT makers like to make people think that the scores are similar to IQ scores in that they cannot change, but that is not the case.  You can raise your SAT score through a variety of study techniques, but you will need to study very seriously for the next test in order to raise your score by that much.

Start by determining your strengths and weaknesses.  Are you better at math or writing?  How is your vocabulary?  Do you struggle with sentence completions, or do they come easily to you?  You will need to honestly evaluate your previous scores and identify which areas you think you can improve.

Vocabulary is a big area for the SAT.  This will help with the reading and writing portions, so spend time every day studying new words.  You can find lists of common SAT words online, or in test prep books at your library.  Study 20 words a day.  Use flashcards, write out definitions, use the words in sentences.  Do whatever you need to do to remember those words.  Also, look up any word you hear or read that you are not familiar with.  Looking up an unknown word as soon as you encounter it is the most efficient way to expand your vocabulary.

Also, you will need to practice with lots of real SATs.  You can find released tests in many SAT prep books.  Take full tests under the same time constraints as the real test.  Keep track of problems you miss, and look for patterns.  Spend time studying problem types you miss often.  If you find problems that you simply do not understand, take them to your teachers.  Most high school teachers will be more than happy to sit down and work through a few problems with you.

Remember, the SAT is NOT an IQ test.  You can improve your score with time and hard work.  Be confident in your abilities, and keep a positive attitude throughout your studies.

(Also, those SAT guidelines for NYU aren't set in stone.  Even if you don't get the score you want, send in an application.  Maybe your essay or recommendations will wow someone in admissions.)
