  1. when people say 1400, chances are they are talking about the math and critical reading sections only (since some colleges havent figured out how they evaluate the writing section.Your score is probably mid-range. Some kids actually got into Stanford with that score. Look at collegeboard.com to see if your score fits in between the average numbers at the colleges you're really considering. If its too low, i would consider retaking it. If you study for the next test, you wouldnt be wasting money.  I suggest the Princeton Review book because it helps you strategize (Cracking the SAT) and practice questions are available in either the Collegeboard book (but you have to pay extra for explanations) or a free website that i recommend number2.com. Im assuming that you'll be a senior this year so good luck with everything.

  2. fyi thats really good

  3. It's been awhile since I've graduated high school, but isn't 1600 considered the perfect score? If you got 1880, then that is d**n good.

  4. It depends on which college you aim to go to and the high school you go to.

Colleges compare extracurriculars, G.P.A., and test scores to see if you're eligible.

Some set the SAT benchmark low while others higher. By having a higher SAT score, you may also lower your GPA need.

I would retake it, I'm retaking mine because I scored below 2000. But the reason is that my GPA isn't as high as I want it to be (it's 3.33 or so). (You have to also take in regard the environment you are in, with the GPA I am ranked in the bottom 50% of my class [and my SAT score is roughly 50% higher/lower than the people in my class])

But the thing is, do you think you can improve on your SAT score? If you think you scored a score you tried your best on, then retaking might just turn out to be a lower score. You need to practice for it.

  5. I got that same exact score and am going to retake the test.  2000 is what the selective colleges generally look for.  A combined 2000 on the SAT gives you a great chance at going to college where you want.  Its been my dream to go to UNC so I am only retaking the SAT to make sure I get the 120 more points and get accepted.

  6. It depends on what colleges you want to get into...it is above the national average of 1500--that's good. But if you're thinking of places like Penn or more elite schools a 1880 won't cut it. But even though you don't want to waste money, I'd take it one more time and see if you can bump that score up. But if you want to get into schools that accept an 1800 than why take it again? Just research your schools at collegeboard.com and see if you need to retake it again. Remember...it's not good if you take the SAT too many times (like over 3)
