i just took the SATs and I got a...

matt 600

Reading 590

writing 800

total 1990

I'm only a sophmore so don't be too hard on me. but I do admit that i want to go to Georgetown and i don't think that's up to their standards.

I do a lot of community service and I play piano and play golf.

  1. GREAT writing score! actually your scores don't look too bad at all

but you really do need to try to raise it 100 or 200 points

  2. Compared to the national average, your scores are pretty good. However, I agree with you, Georgetown is hard to get in and they have extremely high standards. Everyone I know who got into Georgetown have 2100+ SAT scores. But they place a greater emphasis on community service, the entrance essay and extracurricular than SAT scores. But every little bit helps when you are applying to such a high ranking school.

You should work on improving your reading. Try getting a couple of prep books by different companies and read their strategy for answering reading questions. Also, you can start memorizing a few vocabs a day. The most helpful thing is to do lots of practice problems. The more problems you do, the easier and faster it'll be. This goes for math too.

  3. sophomore! thats great!  you still got time. your writing is impeccable, but to georgetown they don't really care. They only look at the reading/math scores. Math is so easy to improve though. I think math is easier to get an 800 than writing. I would pick up an SAT book and get cracking on reading/math. Math-work on it more because it's all practice. Reading- sorry to say but no matter how much you practice its going to be hard to raise your score more than hundred points.
