So, i would say i'm a pretty smart person with grades and such (A's and B's) and i did absolutely terrible on the SATs! A 1480 =(! I know i could do much better but i've already taken it twice and got the same score. Is it even worth retaking for a 3rd time? And is it really true that colleges dont really look at SAT scores anymore?

  1. try taking the ACT

    some people do tremendously better

even if they dont think that they actually will

  2. The importance of SATs depends on the school you want to go to (I hear ACTs are more prevalent in the Mid-West); however, your SAT scores are looked at by colleges, even though they might not be as huge of a factor in your potential admission as they were years ago.

I think you should studying up for the SAT (get a review book: The Official SAT Study Guide is really good and it's made by College Board; The Princeton Review also makes really good review books in general). You could also take an SAT prep class--they're really helpful.

  3. Colleges very much look at SAT scores. It's the great equalizer because a 4.0 at different schools means different things.

First, take a look at median scores for the colleges that interest you. If you're not in the range (25-75 percentile) take it again. Or as others have suggested, try the ACT which many do better on. Take a prep class if you can afford it. Either way, do lots of practice tests. Good luck!

  4. I can't answer on if you should retake it a third time or if it is even worth the time.

BUT I can say that I never took the SAT's, but only took the ACT's and had no problem getting into a good college (The University of of Minnesota Twin Cities  as well as a different school when I decided to transfer a few years later.)

  5. you should try taking the ACT. some people that do not do well on the SAT, do much better at the ACT.
