Portuguese International Nuno Gomes continued his revival at SC Braga over the weekend as he netted twice against Gil Vicente, securing his 150th goal in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
Nuno Gomes made the switch from Benfica to SC Braga this summer in a bid to revive his career. The attacker had fallen down the pecking order at Estadio da Luz and was restricted to late cameo roles due to the presence of talents like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oscar-c28720 Cardozo and Javier
Saviola.
Looking to don the Portuguese colours one more time at Euro 2012, the striker engineered a switch to Estadio AXA with the aim of garnering as much playing time as possible.
While the move looked like a bad decision early on, it now seems as if Gomes did indeed make the right choice; he’s finding the back of the net with increasing regularity, something which is huge accomplishment given his age.
Netting a neat brace against Gil Vicente, the front-man took his all time goals in the Portuguese Primeira Liga to 150 and earned three points for his new employers.
Speaking to the reporters, Nuno Gomes said that the beautiful game was always full of surprises, as he could not score in back-to-back starts but was able to bag a brace with opening exchanges of the next match.
"Soccer sometimes you cannot explain. In the two times they put me to play 90 minutes and the holder cannot make goals. Other times, we enter and the first time we played the ball can make a goal. And yet, that's why football is a sport of show and very
much appreciated by many people.”
While undoubtedly proud of his envious feats, the former Fiorentina man said that he was also quite glad to have secured three points for his side.
“I am happy to have contributed to our team winning another game. I'm glad I helped with my team to win entry to the game,” Nuno Gomes was quoted as saying.
With an impressive start to the 2011/2012 campaign, it looks like Nuno Gomes might be able to land a berth in the highly competitive http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 side for next year’s European championships.
