SCARY noises at night!!!?

While and friend a I were on a cow pasture in the middle of the night we heard some very strange noises. I sounded exactly like a heart beating but much louder. It would start off slow but then get very fast which made us freak out. It also sounded like it was 2 feet from us. When we first heard it we freaked out and ran about 100 yards and thought it was gone. But then we heard it again and it sounded like it was right next to us again so we left the field for good. What could have been making those noises. The only thing that I know was there was cows but iv never heard them make that noise before. The only thing we can come up with is the devil or aliens.

Um maybe you heard something like the wind, and you started to freak out and your heart was beating, its probably nothing to worry about.

Not necesarily as i said before in another question cows burp every 5 to 10 seconds it varies so you probably heard that or maybe since cows regurgitate the food after it is on their second stomach to chew it again, and the lasting cows chew extremly loud so yeah it could be one of those three reasons.

well, I know in the south eastern and south mid-west US there are alot of farms that have natural gas pumps and different types of machinery that is turned on at night, it could have been something like that.
