SEC week six: Preview
The Southeastern Conference officially enters into another week of primarily conference play on the weekend. In addition to conference play, the SEC welcomes several strong teams from around the country, in what should be an exciting week six.
Tennessee @ Georgia
Tennessee was able to put together a strong performance against Louisiana State University last week, winning by two points. The Volunteers have had a difficult season, struggling against skilled teams, losing to Oregon, Florida and LSU. Nevertheless, Tennessee
has an opportunity to get their first conference win this weekend against a weak Georgia side.
Georgia has struggled all season, with their only win coming against Louisiana-Lafayette in week one. Even after getting their star offensive player back in AJ Green, they were unable to secure a victory last week. The Bulldogs are 0-3 in conference play
and will need to get a win against Tennessee if they hope to get out of the basement this season.
#11 Arkansas vs. Texas A&M
Arkansas and Texas A&M will meet at a neutral site in Dallas this weekend.
Arkansas lost their first game of the season to #1 Alabama last week and will be keen to get back on track against Texas A&M this weekend.
Texas A&M sits at 3-1, after suffering their first loss of the season last week to Oklahoma State. The Aggies have an opportunity to earn AP Top 25 votes with a win over Arkansas this weekend.
#1 Alabama @ #19 South Carolina
Alabama entered the most difficult portion of an already difficult schedule two weeks ago and have made no mistakes. The Crimson Tide cruised past both Arkansas and Florida and now face another ranked side in South Carolina.
The Gamecocks will be in tough against Alabama having come off a loss to Auburn in week four. Nevertheless, South Carolina has had a week off to prepare and will hope to have found a weakness in a very strong Alabama game.
Eastern Michigan @ Vanderbilt
Eastern Michigan has looked horrible this season, currently sitting at 0-5. The club is 116th in the country in points-against, allowing an average of 42.8 points per game. They are likely to make it an even 0-6 after Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt has struggled all season, with only one win against Mississippi. Nevertheless, the Commodores have a perfect opportunity to get a second win of the year and improve to 2-3 this weekend.
#12 LSU @ #14 Florida
LSU was able to sneak past Tennessee last week. However, their game against Florida will prove to be much more difficult. The Tigers are 3-0 in SEC play, but have yet to face a strong conference opponent. LSU will have to be at the top of their game when
they travel to Florida to take on a dynamic Gators offence.
The Gators are coming off a loss to #1 Alabama and will be attempting to get back on track against a skilled LSU side. Florida will try and go back to the offence that earned them a 48-14 victory over Kentucky in week four.
#8 Auburn @ Kentucky
Auburn is currently sitting at 5-0 with a 2-0 record in conference play. The Tigers have made their name this season on the ground, sitting eighth in the nation in rushing yards. They are likely to expose a week Kentucky defence over the weekend and register
a win.
Kentucky started the season off strong with three straight wins. However, they have struggled over the past two weeks with a loss to Florida and an embarrassing defeat to Mississippi. The Wildcats will need to be in top form if they hope to compete against
Auburn.
Mississippi State @ Houston
Mississippi State has managed to put their game together over the last two weeks, with wins over Georgia and Alcorn State. Nevertheless, they will have a much better opponent in Houston this weekend.
Houston is interested in getting back into the AP Top 25 and it begins with a win over Mississippi state on Saturday. A loss would be devastating for the Cougars, as they are prepared to head into weak Conference USA competition in week seven.
