  1. You will be entitled to unenployment benefit and council tax payments.

  2. no sorry

  3. Well I work as a JSA processor and we do have self employed claimants. The decision into whether you are entitled to JSA is made by someone else but basically if you are not earning money and not gainfully employed you can receive income based JSA so the answer is YES!!!!!

  4. Well unless you PAID  PREMIUMS like any other INSURANCE into UE you are not ENTITLED to BENEFITS it is as SIMPLE as THAT you REAP what you SEW

  5. In the United States, self employed persons pay Social Security and Medicare taxes, but not unemployment insurance.  Therefore, they are not eligible for unemployment compensation.

The rules may be different where you are.  Where are you?

  6. Basicly if you`re self employed in the U.K you`re entitled to Jack Shite!

  7. no a self employed person is not entitled to unemployment or workers comp.

  8. Hi I work for benefits.  You wouldn't qualify for anything like JSA because you are working as self employed.

If your income is low you may still be ablte to claim working tax credit and possibly housing and council tax benefit.

I would say put in a claim for both of these, the worst they can do is say no

  9. yeah but only £45 a week! in same situation cos theres no work about :( looking for a factory job somewhere as its only gonna get worse

  10. Have you paid into it?  Most self employed people don't pay into the state unemployment and if you don't pay in you can't take it out.

    Hope this helps

  11. You have to get in touch with the Inland Revenue and end your self employment then phone  Jobcentre plus to start a new claim and attend your interview.  You can't recover anything backdated but from the date you claim, although you can get them to pay National Insurance backdated to tie up things with the Inland Revenue.

Then if you accept more work you have to inform them and then repeat the process - it's a real slog that discourages you from accepting short term work.  The systems a mess - you'll need to get to speak to the Self Employment section at jobcentre plus to get it through.  They are completely overloaded - there's about two people to cope with the workload that was spread over thousands before.

  12. It depends....Unemployment Benefit is now called jobseekers allowance (JSA), there are two kinds of JSA; contibution based and Income Based.

For Income Based you need to have savings of less than 6000 pounds and if you have a partner, they need to be working less than 24 hours per week.

For contibution based JSA you need to have paid Class 1 Type A National Insurance contibutions for two complete tax years. It is not based on savings or your partners income, it can only be paid your 26 weeks and it's only 54.45 per week
