Question:

SENIORS: Palin: do we really want a VP who lacks any respect for tradition--just goes with the latest trend? ?

I entered this question in ELECTIONS but I also want the Seniors view as separate comments. Thanks!

The way she's named her kids is scary when thinking of her as the VP. Her name choices certainly appear rooted in her beauty pageant days:

Sarah and Todd Palin have five children: boys Track, 19, and Trig, 4 months, and daughters Bristol, 17, Willow, 13, and Piper, 7.

I couldn't find any meaning for Track; maybe it's a family name.

Trig is apparently a completely Anglicized version of Trygve but it sounds like trigonometry.

Bristol is the name of a city in England which means "site of the bridge".

Willow is a new-age kind of name (for the tree) and is known primarily for the L*****n character on "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer".

Piper is a surname for someone who plays a pipe or flute and became popular because of the TV show "Charmed".

I wonder if she dots the letter i with little hearts...

  1. I really don't see how any of this has to do with anything.

  2. Yeah, those names are "out there."  Wonder what she and hubby were smoking...

As for  the Bristol situation:  If SP can't succeed  at parenthood, how can she  succeed as a VP, or even, President?

Back to the drawing board for moi!

  3. I agree with Kembeck!!!  If she is our V.P., someone is getting slighted either her kids or our country!!!  Especially since she has one with special needs!!!

  4. i like those names for the kids - not to worry i am not political.  when i was little the traditional name for girls was linda.  i felt so out of place because i was the only one in class with my name ( after my grandmother)  now half the women my age are named linda - how boring!

  5. She can name her kids whatever she wants; but, it does seem like the family is descended from rabbits.  Now the daughter is pregnant.

  6. Try looking up SARA or SARAH & you shall see it is a name that is linked to the name of GOD/GODDESS ASHARA or Asari, Asara.

Then research Ancient Druid family names & Nordic Warriors & by that time your brain should have exploded.

The woman has more power in a single hair than most of us shall ever know or be able to comprehend.

Why does this strong woman seem to threaten so many people?  It boggles the mind how ignorant most of my fellow Americans truly are...sorry, no direspect intended.

  7. I'm not voting Republican, but I don't really see how it has to do with her ability as a VP.

    Obama '08!

  8. People who choose who they will or will not vote for based on ridiculous things like those you have mentioned should not be allowed to vote.  Of course I don't know how ''we'' would stop them.

Not all traditions are good you know. And there is nothing wrong with new ones either.

I am an Obama supporter but there are plenty of valid reasons why I vote Democrat and not Republican.

  9. These are interesting names for the most part.  To each his own.  I don't see what it has to do with her ability to serve as VP.  Soon there will be a little grand baby in the Palin household.  I wonder if her daughter will continue with the unique name tradition.

  10. i will not be voting for john -- but it is not because of the names his vp calls her children!!!   she really is a better choice than john himself!!!

  11. I think she is a joke~!   Such an obvious attempt on McCain's part to get women voters....sure women are not ruled by plumbing at the polling booth!  I don't care what she named her children...she is a whacko! If she had her way, Women's rights would be set back 50 years!

  12. WOW!  Very interesting.  You are basing your understanding and acceptance of a person, because of the names they have given to their children.  I presume you have looked for other negatives aspects about them and couldn't find any.  I am a Obama supporter but I also see the good side of all of those who I observe, as well as the negative.  I believe in giving people their dues for the GOOD choices they have made.  One good choice that this lady has made is to continue her pregnancy, knowing that the baby would be born with Down Syndrome.  She realized the blessings that would come into their lives, with such a child in their family.  Others, would not have made the same choice, but had an abortion.  I do not agree with her about NO abortion under any circumstances, but I give her due for the good choices she makes in her life.  Like everybody else, nobody is perfect.

Names must be VERY important to you, why is that?

Sarcasm is also very important to you as is judgement and prejudice.   I find those points much more questionable than the name one picks for their children.

Why is there such bitterness in your heart?  You went to the trouble to look up the meaning of each name.  Is there no other way to spend your precious time on this earth, then trying to find something to complain about a particular person.  I find Willow is a name that, for me connects with the beautiful willow tree, with its long, splended branches reaching for the ground.  If one looks, one can find POSITIVE aspects to everything and everybody, if one wants to, that is.

  13. Her husband is an Eskimo so possibly it comes from his heritage. I have heard worse from some of our movie stars

I am voting for Obama, one way or the other, and was going to do so before she came in the picture.

NOw I know I would never vote for McCain, due to his age, health and political policies, because if he should die while in office, I do not want her sitting in the Presidential position to be running this country. Woman or not, that is not an issue, She has no experience to run this country and no foreign political knowledge or experience either

  14. Is that any better than the Zappas... Moon Unit, Dweezil and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen?  River, Rain, Summer, and Liberty Phoenix?  Gwyneth Paltrow's Apple?  Sunday Urban? Shall I go ON??? (See link below)

Odd, unusual, and "made up" names have (sadly) become a trend in the last 20 years.  These poor kids will be forever strapped with monikers that others will find difficult to use, remember, spell, or take seriously.  Only if the child (when grown) changes their name, might they have some relief.

Personally, I do NOT care for this practice, as it can have major and lasting impacts on these children.  What is so WRONG with a nice, NORMAL name like Betty or Steve?  These people can be JUST as much "individuals" with a name like "Jane" than with something like ....

    Moxie CrimeFighter

    Pilot Inspektor

Peaches Honeyblossom Michelle Charlotte Angel Vanessa

    Fifi Trixibelle

    Talula Does The Hula

(ALL REAL NAMES!!!... their surnames removed to protect their innocence!)

    Have a Senior Day.

  15. It's obvious to me that McCain is just playing the "W" card.

As for the children names, I respect the "anything but business as usual". That's how I feel about politics. I will vote anything but Democrat or Republican. I am registered w/ the Green Party.

As far as the names being 'trendy' ... I have seen more imagination being attributed to names at an increasing rate my whole life ... and I'm 55.

    Dots the "i's" w/ hearts ... lol

Hey, the Piper also led the rats out of town ... maybe there's something significant there ... lol

  16. Don't tell me... let me guess. You are an Obama supporter, and this is the best you can find to knit-pick on her. She is a strong woman who has 5 kids. What she names them is her choice, not yours. Maybe they are kind of unusual names, but look back when parents began naming their kids names like Madison, Apple, and Moon. Who cares? What makes a difference is if she is a good person and can do the job. Does she have to embrace YOUR tradition? Is it ok if she is a free thinker?

I'm just grateful that McCain picked her, and that she isn't tied up in the Good Ol' Boys club. Maybe a free thinker is what this country needs.

What? 4 thumbs down? Am I not allowed my own opinion?
