Question:

SEO advice for a bubblegum site?

We've started this website to put together a bubblegum contest. But not your average run of the mill contest. This one is set up to be the greatest bubblegum contest ever.

I say that because it's designed by the greatest bubblegum blowers ever, two of them guinness world record holders. They have created a contest which was unlike any of the ones they competed in in their lives. In effect, it's a contest created for bubble blowers by bubble blowers, rather then one created by bubblegum companies to advertise their bubblegum.

The person who wins our contest will be the one who blows the biggest bubble, and that person will claim the world championship of bubblegum bubble blowing.

So anyway, we set up the website www.bubblegumheaven.com and when you check out the google rankings when you search "bubblegum heaven" (with no quotation marks) we do pretty good there. Type in the name of our contest, BUBBLEGUM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, and we have no problem there at all.

The problem is when you type in a search for "bubblegum" (the one search word that for us really counts) in the 664 pages that google lets me see we are nowhere to be found (unless my mind blurred over from the repetition of searching and accidentally missed it).

This is really frustrating when you consider that the reason bubblegum was created was to blow bubbles. The man who invented it promoted it by putting on bubble blowing contests which turned it into what is probably now a 1 billion dollar industry, and that is exactly what we are doing now. And yet we can't get listed in a search for "bubblegum."

It gets way more frustrating when you consider all the sites listed who don't have anything to do with actual bubblegum. I even found 2 sites in the top 110 listings that don't even have the word "bubblegum" on their page, and I didn't even look very hard to find that!

Anyway, I'm looking for any advice anyone might be able to give to somehow get our site listed in a search under "bubblegum." And it isn't just to get our site listed. If you stop and think about it, consider the popularity of bubblegum blowing contests over the years and all the people who might want to compete in this if they knew it was available. It seems to me that not listing this site under the search "bubblegum" would be a real disservice to these people.

Thanks!

  1. Very Cool!

First, your site has great potential, more so than I can go into in this answer. If you are serious about your rankings, we need a conversation over the phone.

However, I noticed that your site redirects from the url you have posted here. That should not happen. You need to put a site on that url with no redirection.

You need inbound links of a large quantity to rank for a one word phrase like bubblegum. Your contest and some smart "promotion" can provide those links, possibly very quickly.

I can advise you on a as needed basis without any sales push. I can also initiate some of what you will need for a minimal cost. Of all of the posts like yours I have seen on Yahoo answers, yours may have the best potential yet.

    Good luck.
