Has anyone adopted a child in Florida through Private Adoption? If so can you share info with me on the approx. costs-(im hoping that i can use a not for profit agency) if i have to go through an agency.I have researched on the steps to adopt in Fl but it still feels like theres 'empty spaces' in between all the legal stuff. I want to know what to expect. And to see if it is even attainable for me. I just feel theres so many children out there who need a loving family and that has made me want to adopt when me and my husband of 6 yrs(we are 34 yrs old- we own our home) want to expand our family(we dont have any children yet)I know it takes along time- especially if your looking for specific ages, ect. but i am wondering how long it may take for an infant/baby or toddler under 5.Im not looking to do thisfast- thats why id like to know how long it MAY take this way i know when to get the ball rolling,But the cost also concerns me, im not sure what to expect.Where is THE PLACE to start?

  1. Hi Charles,

You are absolutely correct.  There are so many children out there who need homes.  I would recommend starting by contacting your Florida Dept of Children & Families.  Their number is 1-800-96-ADOPT.  I've also included the link for foster care in Florida too.

You mentioned that cost is a concern for you.  That is all the more reason why you should adopt through your state since the costs will be minimal to none.  The waiting time will also be short.  Hope this helps.
