24x - 3x(^2) - 36

and

a(^2) - 5a - 24

variables

x + x - 2

-- ---- = 3

and

n - 2n

I tried to make them as understandable as possible

if you could please explain how to do these be cause these are pretty much examples

  1. I'm not entirely sure what the question is for # 3 or # 4, but I can answer # 1 and # 2.

    For factoring, all the equations are in the quadratic form ax^2 + bx + c. As long as a=1 (meaning the coefficient on the x^2 is 1), then you can factor using the way I'll tell you. Keep in mind though that if a doesn't equal 1 then there is another way to solve them, but since you don't have those I won't show it.

    #!: Okay, the number one rule is that you factor out any like terms (numbers, variables) that ALL the terms share. They all share a -3 so factoring it out will give us...

         -3(-8x + x^2 + 12)

       Then, we need it in ax^2 + bx+ c format....

        -3(x^2 - 8x + 12)

       Next, we need to find two numbers that multiply to get 12 and add to get -8. That would be -6 and -2. So we put those in this format....

       -3(x-6)(x-2)     And you're done!!

    #2: They don't share any like terms and a=1 so we can factor it. Again, we need to find two numbers that multipy to get -24 and add to get -5. That would be -8 and +3.

         (x-8)(x+3) And thats the answer!
