SGS Bandung club wraps up first ever title in the Indonesian Badminton Super League
In the final showdown of Indonesian Badminton Super League, SGS Bandung club won the first title by beating the defending team of Jaya Raya Suryanaga club at Surabaya, Indonesia yesterday on the 27th of February.
It was a hard fought match that stretched the event right till the final single, where SGS got the opportunity to dominate the opponents and win the match by a 3-2 margin. With this victory, SGS club first time became the champion in this event.
The opening single was played by the Malaysian, and World No. 1, Lee Chong Wei from SGS Bandung. Chong Wei participated in the event by accepting the request of the badminton legend, Taufiq Hidayat who is the captain of SGS. The Malaysian played his usual
game without feeling any pressure against Hong Kong’s Chan Yan Kit, who was playing from Suryanaga.
The opening set was full of quality play as both players were toe-to-toe throughout the game. But in the ending points of the game, it was the more experienced Malaysian who finished it up with a tight margin of 21-20. In the second game, that also proved
to be the final, Chong Wei remained ahead of the opponent throughout the whole set and won it by a decent margin of 21-16. The final score of this straight set match was 22-20 and 21-16.
In the category of men’s doubles, it was the pair of Alvento Yulianto and Trikus Haryanto from Suryanaga club, that won the battle against Hendra Kurniawan Saputra and Chayut Triyachart. It was a straight set match where the SGS shuttlers remained unable
to deliver and lost the match by 13-21 and 15-21 against the duo of Suryanaga.
In the second match of singles category, the captain of SGS, Taufiq Hidayat won his match against Adnan Fauzi in straight games. The experienced Taufiq won the opening set without any hassle by a 21-16 margin. However, in the second game, the young Fauzi
put a great show by playing excellent badminton and remained close to the experienced opponent till 21-21, where Taufiq scored remaining points in a row and won the game by 23-21. The final score was 21-16 and 23-21.
In the second match of men’s doubles, the duo of Rian Saputra and Tri Wardhana from Suryanaga defeated the more experienced pair of Hendra Gunawan and Flandy Limpele from SGS in a three set match. The concluding score was 21-16, 17-21 and 21-18.
The third match of men’s singles, which was the final battle of the day, was between Tommy Sugiarto from SGS and Alrie Guna Dharma from Suryanaga. Tommy delivered an incredible performance by beating his opponent in a straight set match with a huge difference
of 21-3 and 21-12 score on the board. This win of Sugiarto confirmed the victory of SGS Bandung club in the event of Indonesian Badminton Super League 2011.
