The terms of the consolidation loan are mandated by Congress so you'll get the same terms whether you go through a private lender or the government's direct loan program.  Where you may get some differences is in incentives.  For example, if you have your payment automatically deducted from your checking/savings account do you get an interest rate reduction?  See what is offered from the different lenders and work with the one that is able to give you the best deal.
