  1. You can try online websites, but have someone help you so that you don't get stuck buying some piece of junk.

If you want to play it safe try: http://www.doversaddlery.com/

All their products are really good products, but their prices reflect that.

Please talk to an adult or trainer to get some guidance on your current riding level. You also will need money for lessons and show fee's. Big time shows can run anywhere from $20 to $100 PER class.

Here is a basic checklist for your horse and you (can't forget about you!):

    Bridle with reins

Bit (be sure to get the right kind of bit and size for your horse)

Saddle (it needs to fit you AND your horse, ask your trainer about what gullet size you need)

Leathers, Irons and a girth with your saddle (ask your trainer about what size girth you will need for your horse)

Polos/wraps for your horses legs to protect them during training etc

    For Basic Care:

Brushes, a soft, medium and stiff brush for grooming

    a curry comb

a hoof pick to clean their feet

    a sponge for baths

a mane and tail brush (try Oyster- there are amazing products)

a mane pull comb if you need it

    For you:

Riding breeches - get the right color for your circuit, show jumpers wear white, but for small local shows black or tan should do

riding shirt - must be collared and if you are not wearing a jacket, you need long sleeves

a riding jacket - black or navy blue is the 'in' color right now

riding gloves - match your jacket, or just get black if its close enough for the small shows

riding boots - you can either get paddock boots and wear half chaps (black only!) or buy a pair of tall boots. either way it must look like your leg is covered up to about your knee

    a helmet - a MUST!

You will also need a trailer to get to the shows - then you need protective gear for your horse to travel in etc

There are other fancy things you can get, ie special bags to hold your show clothes, rubber bands to braid your horses hair etc

If you have any more specific questions, email me and we can talk. There is a lot that goes into this :) mlewing@calpoly.edu

  2. well ur gonna need time and money.

    Horses take alot.

First you need everything for the horse if u havent gotten the basic,

    Food, buckets,blankets,hay,brushes, ect.

As for riding if ur just doing show jumping you will need.

    English saddle (leather $300-1000+)

    Bridle + bit ($30-80)

    saddle pad ($20-100+)

    Approved helmet($60+)

    riding boots($20-80+)

    outfit Breeches, top (50+)

    thats just some basic stuff.

    good luck

  3. You need a trainer or instructor before you do anything. You can't just buy a horse and start show jumping. There is so much more to it, and it's going to get expensive, so I hope you have plenty of income.
