My boyfriend found a silvertail insect on one of his pants this morning. At first i didnt think it was a big deal b/c insects get into the house sometimes but when he told me it was considered a "household pest" first thing i thought was "oh my god they are like cockroaches!". Now im freaking out b/c im very clean and my tenant downstairs is also very clean. I did some research on these bugs and how they live and what they like to eat. I just need to know what works to kill these guys. I live in a duplex that is about 100 years old and there are many small cracks and openings everywhere in our basement including the tenants. I cant afford an exterminator. Any advice on how to kill these bugs or have them not come into my home would be wonderful!!! I also have a 7yr old and a baby coming any day and dont want to put something where they can also be at risk for poisoning. HELPPPPPP!! This is disgusting and now i feel paranoid!

  1. I'm not possitive we are talking about the same insect, but if its what we always called a silver fish, you might just need a dehumidifier.  I think they tend to be in damp places.  Of course I am no expert I just remember seeing one as a kid.  Here I found this website.  It says they get into food pantries and wool. http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...

  2. guessing you are talking about silverfish...it probably cam from the wall/ attic area where they live, not any real god treatment to totally eliminate them.   You can treat the openings that go into the wall/attic with a residual product that will help keep them out of sight...Dekko makes a silverfish bait that can be placed in drawers and closets where they may show up.
