as he reaches in to get the ball and throw it. Is the ruling the same as it would be for an infielder trying to turn a double play. Out and then dropped on the transfer?

  1. did it fall out of his glove or did he have it in his other hand and then drop it? the ball that is.. first the runner at first would still have to tag up providing the Out fielder  had control of the pop fly. as far as the ruling I am more then sure the ruling would be the same, the only question is did he have control of the ball, in his glove.when he caught the fly ball either way the ruling is the same infield or out.hope this helps.

  2. The real question is whether or not he had control of the ball. If he dropped it and the umpire ruled it a drop then he has every right to throw to second and try and get the force out. Overall though it wouldn't matter because the hitter would have (should have) run to first anyways and by the time the outfielder dropped the ball and threw the guy out at second the hitter would have easily made it to first. So in the end you have a guy on first with two outs no matter what (if the outfielder caught it or not). Make sense?

  3. Yeah. Unless the umps an idiot (which happens sometimes).

  4. Yes, the ruling is the same.  Out and then dropped on the transfer.

If the runner is able to tag and advance as a result of the drop, it would be an error.

  5. yea
