Question:

SKS rifle with bayonet is it legal?

First, I'm a law abiding citizen . Around 1991, when we all though ther end of the world was coming, I purchased legally through a licensed gun dealer and SKS rile and a AK-47. I have never modified, fired and done anything with the guns. They have been stored in a gun case since the day they were purchased. I simply bought them, as everyone said some day they would be banned.

Fast forward. I'[m getting ready to move now and need to check these guns in as cargo under the plane. I know they will be inspected and I have removed the bolts, and have them in a locking case. My question is, what is legal now?

The SKS has a bayonet on it. The AK-7 is also the very same way I purchased it. Are these still legal? I'm moving to Florida. I know they were when purchased, but have the laws changed? Do I need any documenation to own these now due to law changes? Any help you can provide is appreciated.

  1. If you live in California, then an sks with a bayonette is illegal. (not sure about other states, but i know most of them are the opposite of california)

Also, In california, If you have any type of magazine, it is illegal.

  2. You should register your guns with the police or something like that. I'm pretty sure the Ak7 is illegal since that's a machine gun.

  3. Everywhere but the people's republic of kalifornia.  Enjoy your rights as protected by the second amendment.

  4. The federal ban has sunsetted so you are all set.

These are now "the good ol' days" again. We'll see how long it lasts if Obama get's elected.

  5. Yes they are.  The bayonet is perfectly legal to have on the firearm as it is a military rifle that is unaltered.  I just bought a Russian SKS with the same thing and there is nothing wrong with owning it.  The laws have changed but for the better.  Its no longer illegal to own a "assault rifle" or a rifle equiped with a bayonet.  You can even own fully automatic firearms now, where you were banned from doing so in the past, unless you wanted to go through all kinds of red tape to get to own a full auto firearm.  You will be fine, just follow the FAA guidelines for transporting firearms and everything will work out.

  6. FYI, SKSs with bayonets are perfectly legal in California, contrary to what the FUD spreading  misimformed "experts" are saying, not to mention that AK-47s are also still legal to own in California with certain restrictions. While you'll have no problem with the SKS or AK-47 in Florida, certain airlines have various restrictions when it comes to shipping firearms. 7. I bought my SKS in '89 in FL. I still have the bayonet attached. I also own an AK with bayonet.

FL is a very gun friendly state. They also have CC Permits that allow you to carry most places. You don't need any documentation, you don't need to register them, you don't need to tell anyone you have them.

  8. They are perfectly legal in Florida. No documentation of ownership.

  9. The baynonet is legal unless you live in Kalifornia. It's the "curio & relic" status that saves it. Actually if it weren't for its "curio & relic" status it would be illegal for a few resons and the bayonet being one of them. Also the night sights, the grenade launcher, and imported guns need to have a certain amount of American parts and these usually have none.

I'm speaking of the Yugo since I'm betting that's what you have.
