SLC secretary slams lack of unity in Team Sri Lanka – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nishantha-Ranatunga-c79713, opines that their team is losing continuously at the international level due to the lack of harmony among players, who play only for their individual records, not for the team's triumph.
The secretary argues that the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 are not playing as a team, therefore, they mostly fail to perform confidently in the face of odds, revealing that the board has grave concerns over this issue and they are looking for the ways to sort it out.
In his interaction with the media today, Ranatunga said, “The body language and the performance shows they are not playing as a team. It is an important issue for the board to address. They need to make sure they play for the country and not for individual
performances."
Sri Lanka’s pathetic performances and failures since the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011 have rendered SLC managers and officials in the sports ministry sleepless, and they are working on framing out a system that may fix all the fault lines.
The country’s sports minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, is of the view that there is a huge communication gap within the team and between the players and the management.
During a parliamentary session a few days back, he said, “At this moment, senior players stated that there's a communication gap between the captain and the main coach. It was also highlighted that there was a communication gap between the main coach and
the other coaches.”
2011 had been a disastrous year for the team that lost at least three bilateral series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the final game of the World Cup. After their legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan’s retirement
in 2010, they won first Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 last week.
The players and their management are at loggers head as the latter has not reimbursed some of the former’s remunerations of the WC fixtures so far.
Ranatunga avers that the board needs to enhance the structure of the provincial cricket so that fresh crop of talented players replace the current seniors who are not doing well. He is determined to take some drastic steps in this regard.
