SLC strongly nullifies the allegations of corruption against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 and Thilan Samaraweera
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the governing body of cricket in Sri Lanka, has vociferously denied the allegations of corruption level against two of its players by a state television and expressed deep regret over the immature and irresponsible attitude of the
media.
With many voices of spot-fixing in the air, it is turning out to be a trend to accuse players, a leading TV channel ITN blamed Mahela Jayawardene and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Samaraweera-c2712 for underperforming deliberately during a match against Pakistan on Saturday 26 February.
In an effort to defame and degrade the team, the channel lampooned the two players of taking bribes and showing pathetic performance that steered the team to lose by 11 runs in one of its important group match.
According to the channel’s report, a leading businessman, name not revealed, put $18, 000 in a bet for the match and to recover his money, he allegedly purchased the Sri Lankan players to lose the match. Deploring on the allegations, the SLC said in a statement,
“It is with deep regret that we note that a leading television channel in a special program, namely Wimasuma, has stated that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 has lost due to two of our leading players not getting runs in that game”.
The SLC has deep reservations over this baseless and defamatory report by a local channel, as the body sees it a conspiracy hatchet to demoralize the players during the ongoing World Cup in which Sri Lanka has emerged one of the favorites. The SLC stated,
“SLC strongly condemns the bona fides of his anchor who hosted the program carrying a story that is baseless and thereby demoralizing our players during the ongoing World Cup”.
During the match that Sri Lanka lost to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, Jaywardene contributed 2 and Samaraweera just 1 run in the chase of target of 278 runs of the Men in Green. Cricket being the game of chance and luck, it was just a mishap but the media took it as a corrupt
practice of match-fixing and went on to scandalize the players who fought tooth and nail to take the day but failed.
The SLC as well as the accused players tend to sue the channel for its outrageous effort to degenerate the team in the midst of the World Cup. The SLC said, “We will take the matter to the relevant authorities for channel’s causing distress to out cricketers”.
The BBC reported that Jayawardene was considering a legal action against the channel.
With the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Harris-c1310 media being in momentum, the irresponsible and yellow journalism seems to be in vogue. Most of media men break the stories without proper scrutiny and solid proofs that cause disruption to the smooth order of the society.
