SLPL will help players to prepare for T20 World Cup, feels http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 – Cricket News Update
Sri Lanka’s former skipper Tillakaratne Dilshan reckons the ongoing Sri Lankan Premier League will help his teammates to get ready for next month’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, between September 18 and October 7.
“The SLPL will help them prepare for the World Cup,” said the Sri Lankan opener, who is leading the Basnahira Cricket Dundee side in the inaugural edition of the Sri Lankan Premier League (SLPL).
“We are holding matches at Pallekele Stadium, Kandy and R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. These venues will be used for the World Cup,” he added further.
The inaugural edition of the Sri Lankan Premier League kick started on August 11 and the Kalutara all-rounder said that one could not compare the established five-year-old Indian Premier League with the infant SLPL.
“I think we can't compare IPL with the SLPL. IPL is a big thing,” said the 35-year-old top-order batsman, who played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in this year’s IPL.
“SLPL is good for local players who could not play in IPL...It’ll help them gain international experience,” he added further.
The lucrative Indian Premier League is undoubtedly the pioneer domestic Twenty20 league and the biggest T20 tournament after World Cup. It stared back in 2007 and so far five successful editions have been played, while the Sri Lankan Premier League is just a week older, and is also lacking the kind of international participation the IPL enjoys.
Dilshan also hoped the domestic Twenty20 league to help the struggling players regain form ahead of next month’s marquee tournament.
“The league will help some of our players to come back to form before the start of the World Cup. This is like get ready and be 100 per cent fit for the event,” said the former Sri Lankan skipper.
The fourth edition of the ICC World T20 Championship gets underway in Hambantota on September 18, with hosts Sri Lanka playing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, two years ago.
