I am going on vacation in November and want to take lots of pictures, Hawaii is my destination so of course there's lots of scenery to capture. I want to buy it now and play with it so I'll know how to use by then. I am wanting suggestions on a good camera that takes fantastic indoor/outdoor pictures and has good zooming. I was reviewing Canon digitalrebel xti, does anyone own this brand of camera? If so, what do you think of it? Is it worth buying? thanks in advance!

  2. I've had the Canon Digital Rebel XTi for about a year now, and absolutely love it! The lens that comes with the camera is 18-55 mm, which is good for routine photos. If money allows, but another zoom lens such as a 75-300 mm. But remember, a cheap lens will produce cheap photos.

You'll definitely want time to familiarize yourself with the camera. You might also consider buying an extra battery. It's really frustrating when the perfect shot comes along and you find out your battery is dead.

You'll also need to purchase a CF memory card. One with 2 GB capacity should hold approximately 500 photos at the largest resolution.

Good luck with your vacation, and I hope you get a lot of great photos!

  3. I have it, and yes its worth it. I have family members looking at my artistic photos that I take from time to time and everyone who looked at my photos noticed the resolution and how nice the picture looked and ask what type of camera I have. Its very worth it if you like taking photos of not just family but scenery.

Tip: I like to take pictures of my family when they aren't looking because it becomes more of a true picture instead of pretending to smile and waiting for the snapshot to be taken.

  5. It's a good camera. However, with what you need, you will need a good telephoto lens with IS (Image Stabilizer).  The kit only have 18-55 which doesn't give you enough zoom for a closer shot. Then I would assume you would take it to the beach. Digital camera including DSLR are not really good to bring to the beach because of sand. A tiny sand going in your camera can ruin it. You can however buy an armor for the XTi (makes it look cool, too), it's a rubber suit that cover most of the part - and you also need to buy an UV lens (whether you go to the beach or not, it is advisable to buy one for any camera - helps protect the lens). The Olympus Stylus 1030 SW (or other shockproof, waterproof, beach and snow proof) is made for such places. If it gets messed up because of it, it is covered by the warranty. Otherwise, you might want to buy an Accidental Insurance for any digital camera you get - it will be worth it unless, you can be one of those professional photographers that really know how to care and handle cameras.

You would also need a CF memory card of an XTi - get at least an ULTRA 2 or a faster one (EXTREME 3, EXTREME 4, DUCATTI - the faster the more it cost) at least with 2 gb:

Extra rechargeable battery is always helpful.
